Aquì was written at the request of soprano Virginia Sublett and flutist Elizabeth McNutt, who premiered the piece. The text is a poem by Octavio Paz, which Julio Cortázar incorporated as a chapter in his novel Hopscotch:

Mis pasos en esta calle
Resuenan
en otra calle
donde
oigo mis pasos
pasar en esta calle
donde
Sólo es real la niebla

The feeling of walking through a dislocated world where one hears echoing footsteps from two streets at the same time (and only the fog is real) is represented by the intertwined and refracted lines of flute and soprano.
